9 Stunning Autumn Walks in Carmarthenshire

As summer draws to a close and the kids get settled back into school, September and October are the perfect time of year to enjoy a mid-week break and discover some glorious walks around Tanylan Farm. With the seasons changing, the Carmarthenshire countryside is simply bursting in beautiful colour just waiting to be explored. So stick on your walking boots and make a Tanylan luxury holiday cottage your base from which to venture.

Here we offer you 9 stunning walks to explore:

1.      Pembrey Country Park
A very popular visitor attraction, with its adjoining eight mile Cefn Sidan beach, Pembrey Country Park is as much about coast as it is country. There is an adventure playground, train rides, dry ski slope, toboggan run, pitch and putt and crazy golf. It also offers acres of stunning forestry and wide open parkland to explore. However, dogs are not allowed on the Blue Flag area of the beach between 1st May and 30th September.

2.      Llansteffan Castle
Autumn is quite possibly the best time to visit this romantic castle as it become enveloped by swaths of orange and red trees.

3.      Laugharne and discover Dylan Thomas’s boathouse
With it’s stunning vistas over the estuary, be inspired to gently wander and create your own poetry as you follow Dylan Thomas’s Birthday Walk, from his Boathouse through St Johns Hill and back down into the town.

4.      Carreg Cennen
Situated some 900ft above the River Cennen, Carreg Cannen stands majestically on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, this castles boast a spectacular location. Two trails here, one leads to the hilltop castle which offers, panoramic views. The other takes you around the base of the castle and along the River Cennen for a more tranquil walk.

5.      Brechfa Forest
If its fresh air and dramatic landscapes you are looking for, then head out to the Brechfa Forest. It’s free from any livestock, and very rural, so offers superb dog walking opportunities and the perfect place to explore.

6.      Dinefwr Park and Castle
A choice of gentle or more challenging walks here. (Follow the Red signs for the longer route and the Yellow signs for the Shorter route)
A gentle walk around the White Park Cattle walk to see cattle and calves or endure a more challenging uphill climb to Dinefwr Castle which boast views over the Tywi valley. There is also an ancient deer park, boardwalk and of course the star attraction Newton House. Dogs will need to be kept on the lead and are not permitted into the deer park. 7.      Newcastle Emlyn and Cenarth
If you are wanting to continue the search for some great autumnal colour, take a trek from Newcastle Emlyn through to Cenarth Falls, right on the Pembrokeshire border. Watch the water cascade through Cenarth falling beneath the infamous stone bridge, calm and peaceful when the river is low and impressive and powerful during periods of heavy rain.

8.      Amman Valley Riverside Walk
This one is great for dog walkers which follows the Amman River along the valley running between the Black Mountains to the North and Betws Mountain to the South.

9.      Gwenffrwd-Dinas RSPB reserve and Twm Sion Cati’s cave
A must see destination in the autumn months as the woods simply erupt with colour. Red, yellow and oranges will dazzle you on this walk. Set within spectacular countryside, a 3.5km way-marked path takes you through the mixed woodland to Twm Sion Catti’s cave.
